The focus on spinal and skeletal adjustments makes doctors of chiropractic unique in their approach to treating patients with spinal complaints. However, this hallmark chiropractic adjustment is not the only procedure a chiropractor may employ in managing a patient's care. I am proud to bring my patients various treatment options beyond a typical chiropractic center's scope of responsibility. With the advances in physical therapies and modalities, we bring El Paso options that better aid in the rehabilitation process. Tissue healing is a beautiful process that begins the moment an injury occurs. How the damage is managed determines the outcome concerning healing. We must implement immediate procedures as soon as possible to gain optimal recovery. The old day of letting it rest until it gets better is not the only option. Letting it rest may be irresponsible, considering what we now know. Implementing active and movement-based treatments has clearly shown increased and improved outcomes in many instances. As doctors focus on the greater good, we must assess each patient individually and apply the appropriate protocols. It is also essential to denote that El Paso has fine doctors in many specialties of healing and repair. The direct relationship with the specialists in these disciplines allows us to bring our patients the highest quality of care. My promise to my patients is stated for all to read here. My passion is for people. When they thrive- I thrive. I strive to make a positive and memorable impact on each person’s life I come into. My passion for people and health began at a young age. Starting with competitive sports as a child and into high school, I was truly amazed at what the human body was capable of. In 2010, at the age of 13, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. From here, my passion for the healthcare world blossomed. I became very familiar with doctors, blood work, and patient care. In turn, I got to learn more about not only my body but how much work truly goes into maintaining the body’s fragile systems and how precise our hormone levels have to be. When it came time to decide on a major and what college to go to, I proudly chose Grand Canyon University. The strong ethics they have and prestigious healthcare majors were right up my alley! I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 3.5 years with a bachelors of science in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Health Education. After graduation, I continued to get my Exercise Physiologist Certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). As previously mentioned, I am truly fascinated by how amazing the human body is. One thing I love specifically about it is the ability it has to heal itself. With the proper supplementation, diet, and knowledge, the body can make incredible changes. This is where Functional Medicine comes in. Functional medicine is treating the body and the cause of an issue the individual is having at the root cause, not just covering up the symptoms. When a patient comes in, we start with a very detailed history. This history typically takes about 45 minutes to complete but allows us to gain a new perspective on what is occurring in the body. After this is completed, it is assessed at a one-on-one appointment with Dr. Jimenez, myself (Kenna Vaughn, Senior Health Coach) and the patient. At this appointment, we will decide what labs to run to give us a better direction and understanding of the levels that are currently in the body. The labs we use give us extensive results and information. The importance of these labs is patient health, so we use over 12 different companies to ensure we are getting the best quality of results per patient. Every plan we create is individualized and personalized per patient. We understand that the human body is not a one plan fixes all. What works best for one person will not work best for the next. One of my favorite parts of creating these personalized plans and working with patients is the nutraceutical and coaching aspect. The nutraceuticals we use are free of wheat, gluten, corn, yeast, soy, animal or dairy products, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, or artificial preservatives. The certain nutraceuticals we recommended per patient depends on their blood work and the specific health goals we have created together as a team. Part of being a team means having people to keep you accountable. As a health coach, I personally stick by the patient’s side every step of the way. Technology today really helps us take our patients to the next level. The clinic has an app, “Dr. J Today” that allows me to view the daily food and supplement intake of our patients. In addition to this, it pairs with a smartwatch that tracks activity and steps. Not only does it pair with a watch, but it pairs with a scale as well. This scale does not measure just weight, but water weight, body fat change, lean mass change, BMI and BMR. Having all of these components together truly allows me to have an inside view on progress and keep individuals motivated. I also have the ability to instant message patients through the app to answer any quick questions they have outside of their weekly video chat check-ins, also performed through the app. Lastly, a critical part of the body that is often overlooked is the feet. In the office, a scan of each patient’s feet is taken and carefully assessed. From here, I am able to tell the pressure they are putting on their feet and the differences they have in their arches. This allows a comprehensive alignment of their ankles, knees, hips, and spine. The body is a chain reaction and all works together. If the feet are causing problems, added stress and strain is being put on the body. I have the ability to order custom 3-D printed orthotics to help get patients back on the right foot!

Presenting Truide Torres Jimenez. Clinic Director: Injury Medical Clinic PA & Patient Relations Advocate & WAY More) Focused on patient care and medical-legal Issues, Trudie is ready and prepared to help all patients in need. "I will find a way to help you. No matter what!" Truide has been working for the past 20 years in claims resolutions. She works hand in hand with patients and is available to resolve dispute resolutions. She also works as the patient liaison for clinical and legal matters. Truide Torres Jimenez (Brief Bio & Her Personal Message) Driven by the passion of doing what is in the best interest of the patient, I wake up every morning with the drive to help those in need. The claims process for health care is full of pits, valleys, and difficult obstacles designed to strike fear in those in need. My duty is to do what is within the confines of the law, “whatever it takes” to get those involved to pay attention to those who need help. That is what I am honored to do for our patients. My Purpose: In finding my purpose, I find the bigger “Why” behind my business. This is essential in the challenges I have seen in these times. Each day, I search for God’s message in my purpose which I pray takes me to another level. At the end of the day, I too do not want to work for the sake of working. As humans and God-fearing individuals, we like to know we’re in alignment with what we feel we are called to do. So getting with my purpose and my “why” has always so important to me. I love people and I want to help them, especially when they are in need. My Commitment As defined, commitment is “the state or quality of being dedicated to cause activity, etc” Without commitment, it is difficult, if not impossible to push through challenges to reach our goals. My commitment is to serve my fellow person in their clinical needs and find the right solution for them. My Dedication: “The quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose is what I strive daily for every day”. I have always told my children, that once you have a purpose, you commit to it and you see it through. I too try to live my life by those words. Yes, its work, and there is no substitute other than to dig in and get it done. There is no substitute for practice and preparation. Our success with our patients has always been dependent on the level of effort we as a team has been able to mutually focus on with our independent and prioritized tasks. I commit to being dedicated to our God-directed purpose. Perseverance I believe that to persevere, you must show continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failures, or oppositions. With our patients and those we assist, we face many challenges and at times need and pray for the ability to push through and pick ourselves up when down. I can only imagine how my clients feel. For that reason, I push harder to help them. Simply put, each challenge we as a team overcomes, the closer we can help our patients and those in need. We stay the course and overcome the fear and struggles our patients have and help them clinically persevere. Personally, I have seen great injustices transpire on those that do NOT have a voice in today’s world. Whether, a language barrier or just not knowing the rules. My job is to find out how I can help. If I personally can not help, I will find the right sources to open the possibilities. I get the job done. As a wife and mother of 2 children, 2 dogs, and 3 cats. My passion is for God, Family, and the mission of serving my fellow man. Sports Injury Medical & Chiropractic Clinic is a progressive joint-focused, and specialist-integrated clinic focused on advanced techniques. They have a holistic, interdisciplinary approach focusing on the concept of 'Motion is life'. They work with their patients to find the correct multidisciplinary treatment approach. We treat many different injuries: ★ Soft tissue injuries; ★ Trauma-related injuries; ★ Work and Auto Accidents. ★ Sports injuries Integrating with leaders of many disciplines offers us many approaches to getting patients better. Mobility & flexibility the human body retains a natural level to ensure all of its structures are functioning correctly. The bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and other tissues work together to allow a range of movement and maintaining proper fitness, and balanced nutrition can help keep the body functioning correctly. Great mobility means to be able to execute functional changes with no restrictions in the range of motion (ROM). A flexible person can have core strength, balance, or coordination but not be able to perform the same functional movements as the person with high mobility. Remember that flexibility is a component of mobility, but extreme flexibility is not required to complete functional movements. According to Dr. Alex Jimenez’s compilation of articles about mobility and flexibility, individuals who don’t stretch their body often can experience shortened or stiffened muscles which decrease their ability to move effectively.

PUSH-as-RX (PUSH as Prescribed) is a unique and dynamic evolution of health and fitness. Our programs are made with a clear scientific approach that advances exercise physiology to a higher level. The PUSH System as it is called has been formulated to assist the elite athlete in reaching the highest performance levels. With a focus on human performance and physiology, we design programs specific to athlete needs. The techniques used are also tailored explicitly for injured individuals. The PUSH System assists the patient and athlete alike to achieve the best therapeutic results. The PUSH-as-Rx ®™ System is a sport specific athletic program designed by a strength-agility coach and physiology doctor with a combined 40 years of experience working with extreme athletes. At its core, the program is the multidisciplinary study of reactive agility, body mechanics and extreme motion dynamics. Through continuous and detailed assessments of the athletes in motion and while under directly supervised stress loads, a clear quantitative picture of body dynamics emerges. Exposure to the biomechanical vulnerabilities is presented to our team. Immediately, we adjust our methods for our athletes to optimize performance. This highly adaptive system with frequent dynamic adjustments has helped many of our athletes come back faster, stronger, and ready post-injury while safely minimizing recovery times. Results demonstrate evident improved agility, speed, decreased reaction time with much enhanced postural-torque mechanics. PUSH-as-Rx ®™ offers specific extreme performance enhancements to our athletes no matter the age.

If you have persistent neck or back pain, you might be considering chiropractic manipulation, or realigning the spine by pressing on its joints; a therapy often touted to relieve such chronic discomfort. Chiropractic care is one of the most popular forms of complementary medicine. In 2012, one in 12 U.S. adults visited the chiropractor, according to an analysis of federal survey data published in January. And each year chiropractors (along with some osteopathic physicians and physical therapists) perform several million adjustments. We focus on skeletal and muscular problems—especially low back, neck, and shoulder pain, and related headaches. Studies suggest that spinal manipulations (“adjustments”) can help diminish such pain. “The bad news is that for chronic, persistent back pain, even the best therapies result in only mild to moderate relief,” says Roger Chou, M.D., a professor of medicine at Oregon Health & Science University who studies back pain. “The key is finding the treatment that works for you and seeing a therapist who cares about function—not just pain relief—and who will help you get back to the activities that matter most in your life.” When it comes to neck pain, a study of 181 people published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that getting regular chiropractic care (about once per week for 12 weeks) could lessen discomfort better than acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Some research also suggests that chiropractic manipulation might work as well as medication for migraine headaches. “For a chronic backache or neck pain that is not accompanied by symptoms requiring medical attention—such as urinary or intestinal problems or weakness, numbness, or tingling in an arm or leg—considering chiropractic manipulation seems reasonable,” says Consumer Reports’ chief medical adviser, Marvin M. Lipman, M.D. But it isn’t risk-free. “It can cause temporary headaches and, rarely, serious problems such as worsening the pain of a slipped disk,” he notes. What You Should Know, If You Go All states require chiropractors to earn a four-year doctor of chiropractic (D.C.) degree from a program accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). Chiropractors are also required to pass an exam administered by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners to get licensed. Treatments are often covered by insurance, including Medicare Part B, which pays 80 percent of the cost after your deductible. Back pain is one of the most common symptoms reported among the general population. While a majority of cases resolve on their own, some instances of back pain may be due to further injury or an aggravated condition. If the symptoms are persistent, it might be time to seek medical attention immediately. Chiropractic care focuses on musculoskeletal injuries and actions, helping to restore the original health of the spine.

There are many qualified providers in the El Paso, Texas area. However, several important factors should be individually considered before choosing a personal injury chiropractor to make sure you’re selecting the most appropriate health care provider for your specific type of injuries and claims. Choosing a Personal Injury Chiropractor Foremost, when seeking medical care from a specialized chiropractor after suffering an auto injury, it’s crucial to verify whether the professional has had previous experience with automobile accident and personal injury claims. It may also be important if the personal injury chiropractor the individual has considered getting treatment from has attended post graduate training in accident injury evaluation and treatment which can guarantee a much more effective diagnosis and care from them. An added extra to consider is whether the health care provider can do depositions and testify in court. If the situation comes up, it may be a difficult situation if the doctor one chooses is not willing to help in this step of the legal process. Also, you can do some research or directly ask the chiropractor if they’ve testified in court or previously given depositions for their patients before. Learn the names of several personal injury attorneys the doctor has worked with and call them about their relationship with said healthcare professional you’ve chosen to receive treatment with. A detailed review of the chiropractor’s services can often greatly help an individual select the most appropriate provider according to their demands. Likewise, be mindful of doctors who point you to a personal injury attorney who is found in a distant location. If your attorney is 180 miles away, maintaining contact and knowledge of local providers, defense attorneys and courts can widely differ from what a local attorney may provide you with. Multiple Attorney Affiliation When learning the names of attorneys who’ve worked with your chiropractor, did you notice if they worked closely with multiple attorneys? Some of the best chiropractors are able to maintain a list of attorneys they know can deliver quality results to their patients in a car accident and personal injury cases. A doctor that has connections with more than one attorney offers a broader variety of experienced personal injury claim professionals to choose from, whom can then better accommodate you to solve your specific case after an automobile accident. Proper Medical Protocols and Care While it’s common knowledge to receive the initial intake and examination of an individual’s injuries before starting any form of treatment with a healthcare professional, many personal injury chiropractors follow a specific protocol for cases involving car accident claims, mainly involving detailed intake information on the mechanism of injury, biomechanics and past medical history. A chiropractor who provides a multipage auto accident injury questionnaire filled with meaningful questions is best to be able to provide the most appropriate and most detailed information regarding your situation to follow through with proper treatment. A comprehensive intake examination can often be a bit time to consume, but a chiropractor who provides this in-depth questionnaire displays a definite interest in your case, ensuring that they have taken the time to know what happened to you and how it directly affected you.
Maintaining Proper Posture Many healthcare professionals convey the importance of good posture for overall health. Medical specialist can recognize improper postures caused by poor habits that have been carried out for an extended period of time, an issue which is visible in many adults today. However, only several individuals are aware of how essential and truly necessary good posture can be to maintain overall wellness. blog picture of dr alex jimenez reaching out with blue scrubsWhat is Posture? Posture is the position in which people hold their bodies while standing, sitting, or lying down. A proper posture is medically defined as the correct alignment of the body where each structure is supported with the precise amount of muscle tension against gravity. If people couldn’t control posture and the muscles that uphold the body, we would simply fall to the ground. Generally, maintaining a normal posture isn’t consciously achieved, but rather, specific groups of muscles are in charge of managing this for us and we don’t even need to think about it. Various muscles, such as the hamstrings and the large back muscles, are fundamental towards maintaining proper posture. While the ligaments function to help hold the skeleton together, when the essential postural muscles of the body are functioning accordingly, they can effectively prevent the forces of gravity from pushing people over forward. Postural muscles also function to maintain an individual’s posture and balance during movement. blog picture of young business lady grabbing her neck in pain Why is Proper Posture Important? Good posture is essential, it helps people stand, walk, sit, and lie in positions where the least amount of strain will be placed on the surrounding supporting muscles, ligaments and other tissues during movement and weight-bearing activities. Correct posture: Helps maintain bones and joints in their natural alignment in order for muscles to be utilized properly, decreasing the abnormal degeneration of joints and other tissues which could lead to joint pain and osteoarthritis. Reduces the amounts of stress placed against the ligaments that hold the spinal joints together, minimizing the risk of injury. Gives muscles the ability to function efficiently, allowing the body to use less energy, preventing muscle fatigue. Helps prevent muscle strain, overuse disorders, and even back and muscular pain. To maintain proper posture, it’s required to have enough muscle flexibility and strength, normal mobility in the spine and other body regions, as well as powerful postural muscles that are balanced on both sides of the body. Additionally, it’s important for individuals to recognize the postural habits they practice at home and in the workplace, to implement methods to correct them, if necessary. Consequences of Poor Posture Improper posture can place excessive amounts of strain on the muscles in charge of maintaining posture which can occasionally even cause them to relax when held in specific positions for extended periods of time. For instance, you can generally see this in people who bend forward at the waist in the workplace. In this case, the individual’s postural muscles are more prone to injury and back pain. Various factors can contribute to poor posture, most commonly: stress; obesity; pregnancy; weak postural muscles; abnormally tight muscles; and high-heeled shoes. Furthermore, decreased flexibility, a poor work environment, incorrect working posture, and unhealthy sitting and standing habits can also contribute to improper body positioning or posture. Can Posture be Corrected? Simply stated, yes, posture can be corrected. However, keep in mind that some chronic postural complications may generally take longer to correct than temporary or brief issues, since often, joints and other tissues of the body will adapt to the individual’s posture. Awareness of your own posture and knowing what posture is correct can help you consciously correct yourself. With constant practice and correction, a proper and suitable posture for standing, sitting, and lying down can gradually replace a person’s initially poor posture. This, in turn, will help the individual move towards an improved and healthier body position. A chiropractor can assist you with proper posture, utilizing chiropractic care treatments, such as spinal adjustments and manipulations, including the use of exercises to strengthen core postural muscles. The doctor of chiropractic can also help you understand which are the best postures during specific activities, helping reduce to reduce the risk of injury. How to Sit Correctly for Good Posture Keep feet on the floor or on a footrest, if they don’t reach the floor. Avoid crossing your legs. Your ankles should be in front of your knees. Keep a small gap between the back of your knees and the front of your seat. The knees should be at or below the level of the hips. Cont... See Post..
Functional Medicine Functional Medicine El Paso Chiropractor Why Do We Need Functional Medicine? Our society is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people who suffer from complex, chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, and autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis. The system of medicine practiced by most physicians is oriented toward acute care, the diagnosis and treatment of trauma or illness that is of short duration and in need of urgent care, such as appendicitis or a broken leg. Physicians apply specific, prescribed treatments such as drugs or surgery that aim to treat the immediate problem or symptom. Unfortunately, the acute-care approach to medicine lacks the proper methodology and tools for preventing and treating complex, chronic disease. In most cases it does not take into account the unique genetic makeup of each individual or factors such as environmental exposures to toxins and the aspects of today’s lifestyle that have a direct influence on the rise in chronic disease in modern Western society. There’s a huge gap between research and the way doctors practice. The gap between emerging research in basic sciences and integration into medical practice is enormous—as long as 50 years—particularly in the area of complex, chronic illness. Most physicians are not adequately trained to assess the underlying causes of complex, chronic disease and to apply strategies such as nutrition, diet, and exercise to both treat and prevent these illnesses in their patients. How is Functional Medicine Different? Functional medicine involves understanding the origins, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic disease. Hallmarks of a functional medicine approach include: Patient-centered care. The focus of functional medicine is on patient-centered care, promoting health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease. By listening to the patient and learning his or her story, the practitioner brings the patient into the discovery process and tailors treatments that address the individual’s unique needs. An integrative, science-based healthcare approach. Functional medicine practitioners look “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in the patient’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. The unique genetic makeup of each patient is considered, along with both internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning. Integrating best medical practices. Functional medicine combines traditional Western medical methods with what is sometimes considered “alternative” or “integrative” medicine, creating a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques. Functional medicine is more than just a different approach to health care; it is an entirely different philosophy about how we both provide and consume healthcare. I can honestly say that in my practice, I don’t treat diseases, but instead, I treat patients; some of whom have conditions, and some do not. I focus on normalizing the underlying physiology and restoring healthy function through nutrition and lifestyle changes. People often have significant symptoms, and they feel sick, but they don’t meet the technical requirements for a particular diagnosis. In many offices, this means that they don’t get any treatment at all, but for my patients, this is just the beginning. I work with my patients to discover the dysfunctional patterns that lead to their symptoms, and then develop strategies to correct these patterns and restore optimal health. The functional medicine approach to the treatment of chronic disease is one that is based not on one agent or modality as the curative or palliative solution. It is holistically centered on the principle that restoration of proper cellular metabolism, through reducing cumulative toxic load and oxidative stress to the body, will allow normalization of mitochondrial respiration, cellular energy production, and ultimately to a reduction of the signs and symptoms of chronic disease. While many nutritionally-oriented doctors realize that standard nutritional support protocols alone are quite beneficial for cases of mild to moderate chronic disease, more severe cases often require a more comprehensive functional approach. This functional medicine philosophy and approach was initially developed for clinical use in chronic fatigue patients with excellent results, and because of the commonality observed in many chronic conditions, it has been used over the years in other disorders with great success, including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and auto-immune conditions.
Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each. The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes. By addressing the cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of the disease. They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one reason may result in many different situations. As a result, Functional Medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each.
